In the 17th century the Spanish monarchy was the great defender of the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception, and the kings repeatedly tried the mystery quest fryer to be raised to dogma of faith.This attitude will be reflected in different artistic expressions, among which the prints that accompanied the many treatises on the doctrine that were published in Spain in this century are one of the most grandpas best interesting exponents.Here we study four examples dating from the 1650es, although many more and equally interesting could have been presented.
